Breathwork: Benita’s Personal Story
Bypassing the Analytical Mind to
Heal Wounds and Find Inner Peace
To truly heal long-standing patterns and achieve your dreams, somatic breathwork offers a powerful vehicle for personal mastery, as I discovered in my own journey.
What You Will Discover in This Story
- Accessing Body Wisdom: Discover how dropping beneath logical thoughts allows highly sensitive people to move massive amounts of blocked energy.
- Dismantling the Survival Mask: Learn how a polished public image can unknowingly cause physical pain, while trying to cover up anxiety and insecurity.
- Anchoring Personal Mastery: See how listening to the messages of your body and emotions is a path that leads to your authentic self and a flourishing life.
The Hidden Strain of a Polished Persona
Before discovering breathwork, I was trapped in recurring emotional patterns and a “polished” public persona that hid deep anxiety, depression, and insecurity. Despite my external success, I felt lonely, suffered from chronic pain, and felt like I was never truly living up to my potential.
Then I met a teacher who helped me turn my life around. Gifted with a keen intuition, he could see right through me. The first time we met, I walked into his office in my polished business attire, manicured fingernails, and perfectly coiffed hair. I was shocked when he asked, “Why are you so scared?” and I instantly burst into tears. How could he detect the deep feelings hidden so far inside? I was stunned, yet I deeply wanted a teacher to really know me—and to love me, warts and all.
I began private counseling sessions and attended several weekend retreats every year for six years. I was so fascinated by the results my teacher facilitated that I wanted to learn how to do the same kind of highly effective work with my own clients. Attending multiple retreats per year transformed me to the core.
Here’s how my journey unfolded.
Shedding the Armor in the Forest

Blairsville, GA where I attended retreats to do my own deep healing work.
After a profound, transformational retreat nestled in a forest in North Georgia, I would return to Atlanta, only to find my workaholic habits resurfacing. Three months later, I would attend another retreat, and then return to my busy routine again—but this time, carrying a little more wisdom and less emotional baggage. The more retreats I attended, the more I changed. I gradually shed my dependence on that professional image, which I thought I needed for self-confidence, but which never allowed me to rest in true inner peace. I had been so attached to that image that I didn’t even realize it wasn’t my authentic self.
Because I couldn’t fool my teacher—which was exactly what I needed—he helped me connect directly with my buried insecurity, fear, pain, and anger. He helped me move massive amounts of blocked energy, teaching me to drop beneath my heady, analytical mind and connect with my subconscious material. By using breathwork, sound, and movement to process blockages, I finally broke free from exhausting patterns and laid a new solid foundation for my life.
It took all of those immersive experiences over six years, combined with private counseling, to create deeply integrated, lasting changes in me.
That is how I know the true power of intensive breathwork retreats. Deep healing and personal growth dramatically accelerate during a retreat in a way that standard, one-hour counseling sessions simply can never provide.
Going to just one retreat is a good start. But if you want a profound transformation, you must realize that this journey is not a quick fix. There are layers upon layers of old wounding, and your subconscious mind can only process so much at a time without burning out. In fact, on one occasion, I pushed too hard and got completely fried for several weeks. I learned firsthand how important it is to go slow enough and commit long enough to protect your mind and body.
The Freedom of Lasting Integration
Today, I guide clients through these same powerful, life-changing transformations, helping them achieve inner peace and self-compassion. Stepping away from the daily grind and into a safe, immersive space is the single most effective way to drop your heavy armor and let your nervous system truly reset. I look forward to sharing this profound work at our upcoming retreats, helping you transition to a life of much more ease, authentic power, and deep spiritual alignment.
